Jake Retzlaff to withdraw from BYU: Facing suspension, QB is in search of new home ahead of 2025 season

Less than two months before the start of the season, a notable quarter-rear is now a free agent.
The Byu’s quarter-Arrière, Jake Retzlaff, plans to withdraw from school and will now go through the process of joining a new team, the ex-cougars announced on Friday. The original belief was that the cougars would grant Retzlaff his release as a designated student-athlete, which would have enabled him to enter the transfer portal. However, this did not happen, which led him to have to withdraw from school in order to move to another team.
Retzlaff plans to simply register in a new school rather than taking the path of the transfer portal.
“After a lot of prayer, reflection and conversations with those I trust, I made the decision difficult to officially withdraw from Byu and move away from the Byu football program,” Retzlaff said in a statement. “Byu has mean more for me than football. It was a place of growth – spiritually, mentally and physically. I am grateful for each teammate, coach, staff member and fan who supported me along the way. Relations and memories that I have made to Provo will always be part of me.”
Everything is the result of Retzlaff faced with a suspension of seven games in Byu due to a violation of the school code of honor. The Code of Honor prohibits sex before marriage, which Retzlaff admitted after being accused of sexual assault in May as part of a civil action rejected on June 30.
Retzlaff had always been registered on the online list of Byu even after the reports surfaced concerning its intention to transfer. Cougars coach Kalani Sitake did not much disclose the Big 12 Media Days on July 7.
“First of all, I love Jake Retzlaff,” said Sitake. “We love Jake Retzlaff and appreciate everything he did for our program. I think he would be inappropriate for me to make a statement on his situation first. I think it is his right. I think it is a private matter that he can speak for himself. I will give him the opportunity to do it.”
Retzlaff will not face any suspension in another school.

Although the teams could not have direct communication with Retzlaff because it is not in the transfer portal, it is legal for them to have contacts with members of the Retzlaff camp. There was a combination of Power Four teams and groups of five high -end programs that have already expressed their interest in Retzlaff, according to sources.
Last season, during his first year as a full-time leaving in Byu, Retzlaff represented 2,947 yards by the pass, 417 yards on the ground and 26 affected in total while helping the cougars to display a file of 11-2.
Due to recent developments with Retzlaff, byu’s chances of winning the Big 12 went from 7 to 1 to 19 per 1, according to Fanduel.
