James Franklin reveals how Drew Allar took next steps in growth, slight weight drop ahead of 2025
James Franklin is ready for the rest of the country to see how much Penn State strategist Drew Allar grew up as a player during the offseason. After leading the Nittany Lions at the semi-finals of the play football playoffs a year ago, ALLAR is back on a mission to bring them a championship.
Franklin recently joined Josh Pate university football show Tuesday, where he discussed the work that Allar put to improve in several areas. This includes its weight, because it is down seven pounds during the offseason, which allows it to be more mobile to escape pressure.
“Some of these guys have major areas of weakness on which you have to work. He really didn’t have it,” said Franklin about ALLAR. “He has taken important measures each year in terms of leadership, in terms of understanding the offense, in terms of chemistry with wide receivers. With all this, he took measures and I think that was significant. It went from 242 pounds to around 235. It is better. It is more athletic.”
ALLAR launched for 3,327 yards and 24 affected at eight interceptions last season. He also rushed to 302 yards and six affected. Maybe with a thinner weight, it can also be a threat to the ground.
James Franklin also explained that he would like Drew Allar to be sometimes more aggressive this season with chances at the bottom of the field. However, he also recognizes that it is on him and the rest of the coaches to call games that have put the quarterrier in these positions.
