Jessica Pegula continues to redraw the limits of her career in New York. The 31-year-old American swept the last four of the US Open Tuesday with a 6-3, 6-3 dismissal from Barbora Krejcikova, becoming the first woman to reach consecutive semi-finals here without dropping a set since Serena Williams brought together four consecutive points between 2011 and 2014.

It was a performance of a cool authority, less built on fireworks than on persistence and precision. Pegula only needed 86 minutes to control his opponent, whose service collapsed under pressure with seven double defects and a percentage of first service just over 40%. Where Krejcikikova collapsed, Pegula kept the course, pulling energy from an Ashe stadium almost full of Ashe who felt that they were looking at a competitor at home to take a momentum.

The match started with Krejcikova missing one above and giving its first double fault to drop the service to Love. Pegula extended her advance to 4-2 but stumbled when she missed too many services, allowing Krejcikova to break up. The stay was ephemeral. Another double flaw of the Czech in the next game opened the door and Pegula launched it, breaks immediately and consolidating to pocket the opening set in 38 minutes. Many and many times, Krejcikova’s erratic print let him rush, while Pegula punished the second delivery with crunchy flat yields.

Czech problems redoubled in the second set. She was broken at Love To Open, mixing with double consecutive defects, while Pegula marked his authority once again. The fourth seeded was not impeccable – she doubled twice in a single match at 2-2 and faced a break point – but she stopped with a winner of burning reverse passes before holding 3-1. When Krejcikikova sprayed a forehand on the front in the next match to drop the service, Pegula had the insurance break she needed. Although she briefly gave up one of them, the American’s control has never been in doubt. Serving for the match at 5-3, she closed it on her second match point when the Krejcikova’s right blow sailed in front of the baseline.

“I played very good tennis,” said Pegula afterwards. “I feel like I was really comfortable. We have all seen what she did against Taylor [Townsend]So I was happy that we are done. It was a careful encapsulation of his campaign to this point: regular, controlled and efficient.

The contrast to its summer form was striking. Pegula had undergone an early release in Montreal and Cincinnati after a first round in Wimbledon, reducing a training session in New York the week before the tournament and leaving the frustration field. She then credited a reset to have helped her lose tension.

“I went and I made an escape room with my friends and I took two glasses and I said to myself:” I need to relax, “she said. “It’s crazy to look at now and think that I am really comfortable playing on great shorts with the wildest crowds against great players. Ten years ago, I never thought that I would be good in this area, but I suppose I am.”

Long defined by her frustrations in the major quarter -finals – she failed during her first six appearances at this stage – Pegula has now reached consecutive semi -finals in New York, proof that last year’s breakthrough was not an aberrant value.

Jack Draper will miss the Davis Cup tie of Great Britain against Poland next weekend thanks to an injury.

N ° 5 in the world withdrew from the United States opened before its scheduled match in the second round due to a push of bone bruises in its left arm which had held it away from Wimbledon.

The World Cup group Davis group in Gdynia from September 12 to 13 arrives too early for Draper, with questions about the moment he can come back.

Captain of the Davis Cup, Leon Smith, said: “It goes without saying that it is obviously a shame that we cannot call Jack Draper to be part of the team with his injury and of course, we wish him the best with his recovery and for the rest of the season.”

In the absence of draper, Cameron Norrie will direct the British team alongside Jacob Fearnley, while there are three beginners appointed in the champions of Double Wimbledon Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool Plus Arthur Ferthur.

Krejcikova, 29, ranked No. 62 but a lasting danger, left with credit after a race which included a three sets victory on Emma Navarro and an extraordinary escape against Townsend, where she saved eight match points. But these efforts caught up with him. She had spent more than eight hours in court before Tuesday and did not have her legs to support the rallies against the metronomic efficiency of Pegula. For a player who raised major championships to Roland Garros and Wimbledon – in addition to 10 double titles – it was a reminder that Pedigree alone cannot put paper on a faulty service.

Pegula, on the other hand, finds his stride in what turns into one of his most beautiful seasons. She has already won three titles in three surfaces, joining Aryna Sabalenka as the only players to do so, and her 42 victories this year place her alongside Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek and Elena Rybakina as the most prolific winners of the tour. Statistics and balance suggest that it is ready to test itself once again at the end of the company of a major.

Then, she will face the world 1 world of Sabalenka or Marketa Vondrousova, the Wimbledon 2023 champion who is not evaluated here, for a place in the final on Saturday. Both represent intimidating obstacles, but Pegula rarely looks more comfortable with the second -time scale.
