Traffic was temporarily disrupted Wednesday at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey after a Florida-bound JetBlue flight suffered an engine failure on takeoff and returned to the airport, officials said.

The crew of Flight 543 reported smoke in the cockpit, and after an emergency landing, passengers and crew exited the Airbus A320 down a taxiway via slides, the Federal Aviation Administration said. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the incident was not immediately clear. The FAA said it would investigate.

The FAA has temporarily suspended some airport arrivals. Operations resumed shortly after 7 p.m. ET, the Port Authority said.

According to CBS and ABC, flights were halted arriving and departing from the airport while the JetBlue plane was removed from the runway.

The plane was bound for West Palm Beach, Florida.
