Jets deal for Vikings’ Harrison Phillips, Browns’ Jowon Briggs

Florham Park, NJ – trying to strengthen one of their weakest positions, the New York Jets have acquired defensive plates Harrison Phillips and Jowon Briggs in separate trades on Wednesday.
The jets exchanged two sixth round choices (2026 and 2027) and a choice of seventh round in 2027 at the Vikings du Minnesota for Phillips, sources told Adam Schefter in ESPN. Trade is physical.
The Vikings agreed to pay $ 3.7 million in wages of 7.4 million dollars in Phillips for 2025, a source in Schefter told. Phillips, 29, starter for most of his career, projects himself as a starter alongside the defensive platform Star Quinnen Williams in the front of the 4-3 jets.
Earlier in the day, the jets announced that they had dealt with a sixth round choice in 2026 at the Browns in Cleveland for Briggs and a choice of seventh round in 2026. The jets expect Briggs, who only played 133 defensive shots last season as a recruit, to help their depth.
The jets were motivated to make the professions, in part, due to an injury to Byron Cowart (ankle), which was sidelined since early in the camp. He tended to a starting role.
Cowart was part of a handful of off -season adding on low -cost contracts in the defensive tackle. This includes Jay Tufele, who stood out in pre-season. Surprisingly, the jet did not meet the need for the project.
Phillips was a choice of third round of the Buffalo Bills in 2018, and he started 62 games in his career.
He became a full -time player after having signed with the Vikings as a free agent before the 2022 campaign, starting 51 of their regular season games and the two playoffs during this period while playing on 64.3% of their defensive shots. Known mainly as a racing cap, he established a career in career with 92 plated in 2023.
The Vikings signed him for an extension of contract in September 2024, but he became a consumable this summer after having taken a look at a group of defensive lines which includes the acquisitions of Vétale veteran Jonathan Allen and Javon Hargrave. Minnesota has also developed five young promising defensive plated: Jalen Redmond, Taki Taimani, Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins, Levi Drake Rodriguez and Elijah Williams.
Earlier Wednesday, before the professions against Phillips and Briggs, the defensive coordinator of the jets, Steve Wilks, said he was satisfied with the level of competition for the position alongside Williams.
“I think it’s okay, and I like the fact that Jay Tufele has intensified,” said Wilks, who also mentioned Leonard Taylor III and Phidarian Mathis.
“I thought these guys were doing a great job,” added Wilks. “We are looking for this balance that will be opposed to Q [Williams]Some guys who will also require double teams, so that we can remove some pressure on him. “”
