Yankees GM Brian Cashman deserves executive of the year honors
This will probably surprise his many criticisms (of which I have been one), but that the Yankees can return to the World Series or not this year, Brian Cashman deserves to be elected director of the major league of the year by his peers – and that should not be close.
I know how the heavy analytical approach to assemble the team has resulted in Yankee teams of dimension and fundamentally triggered in recent years, raising the cries of frustrated Yankees legions calling for the head of Cashman. And although there are still a lot of this in this current Yankee group, they are where they are comfortably heading in the playoffs – on the strength of 8-9 of the very successful trades and signatures as well as the continuous development of “system” players like Ben Rice, Jasson Dominguez, Austin Wells and the starting launchers Cam Schlittler and Will Warren.
You should agree on Cashman pivoted brilliantly after losing Juan Soto against the food last winter, signing Max Fried and Paul Goldschmidt as free agents and exchanging the starter spurred Cody Cody Poteet to Cubs for Cody Bellinger and the Deviated Sensor Jose Trevino to Reds for sinker Fernando Cruz. The only large expenditure in all these transactions was the $ 218 million he gave Fried, which was to slide as No. 2 in the rotation behind Gerrit Cole. Instead, Fried must have been the AS and the staff chief, and is worth every penny of the first year of the contract.
When things started to get out of the rails during the season – between the failure of Devin Williams as a third base, becoming a daily responsibility on both sides of the ball after Oswaldo Cabrera has dropped for the year in the spring, and Anthony Volpe struggled powerfully to short -crew for the third pace of golden caliber, the Ryan Ryan Ryan Mcma ° 4 In Everson Pereira, Amed Rosario of the Nationals and closer to David Bednar des Pirates. Again, the return for everyone was minimal. And while the other cashman deadlines for the Camilo Doval lifter have so far looked like a bust, Bednar has literally been a savior at the back of the lift enclosure.
The acquisition of McMahon, despite its high rate of withdrawals to the stick, allowed the Yankees to tighten the defense on the field, to put the chisholm jazz back to the second base, and Rosario provided a more coherent offense as a third -row filling. Caballero, meanwhile, has become an instantaneous favorite of the Yankee with its energy radiance, its speed on the basic journeys and its decent bat. I wonder, however, if even Cashman could have considered that Chisholm runs in a season of 30-30 after having acquired it on the commercial deadline last year of Miami for the defensive power receiver but low Agustin Ramirez.
And then of course, there is Trent Grisham, the “additional” Voltiger Cashman obtained paadres in the trade in December 2023 for Soto. Its 33 circuits having already doubled its summit in previous career while continuing to provide a superb defense in the central field, Grisham suddenly poses a huge dilemma with Yankees as a free agent waiting for a huge day of pay at the same time as the team needs to make room for Spencer Jones – which leads all the minor needles with 35 Homers. But do they play by letting Grisham go and turning to the center of the power by hitting Jones – who also has 177 stick withdrawal at only 56 steps from minors this year? If this is the case, prepare for even more the Home Run or the single bust, the Yankee offensive at high resort next year.
As mentioned earlier, Cashman can also take a deserved arc for his playing system of players in which one day given, there are at least five local players – Aaron Judge, Wells, Dominguez, Rice and Volpe – in the starting formation as well as, at the moment, three starting launchers in Schlittler, Warren and Luis Gil. This probably explains the fierce (but potentially fatal) loyalty of Cashman to the volpe in difficulty in the decreasing days of the season.
But it is the development of so many starters who have undoubtedly been the most rewarding for Cashman. Until the breakthrough of Clarke Schmidt, the Yankees had not written and developed a first -line quality launcher from Andy Pettitte. And now, behind Schlittler, Warren and Gil, they have two of the best prospects for pitching in all minors ready to be delivered at a time 173K in 145 rounds in 25 departures at AAA and AA.
Yankees are always a defective team and they may not return to the World Series this year, but this will not be the case because Cashman has not done everything he could to approach these faults, and the future remains brilliant in the Bronx.

The frequentation problem has long been attributed to the shelves playing on the wrong side of Tampa Bay in one of the worst places – Tropicana Field – Baseball. Although no one in the Zalupski group has comment on the waiting sale, one thing is certain: they do not pay $ 1.7 billion for the Rays to keep them in Saint Petersburg when the vast population is in Tampa where the NFL BUCS and the Lighthful light play regularly to sell crowds.
