Less than a week after being removed from the Trump administration, Jimmy Kimmel Live! will come back at the end of the evening on Tuesday, confirmed the parent company of ABC, Disney.
Disney shot the actor’s show last Wednesday after Brendan Carr, president of the Federal Communications Commission, condemned Kimmel’s comments on the assassination of Charlie Kirk. Kimmel’s comments in question: “We have struck new stockings during the weekend with the Gang Maga trying desperately to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as something other than one of them and do everything they can to score political points.”
Carr threatened the Disney and ABC subsidiaries which carry Kimmel’s show, encouraging stations to pre -empt the end of the evening program. Nexstar, who has stations across the country and needs the FCC approval for a merger of several billion dollars with the media company Tegna, quickly removed the program.
“Last Wednesday, we made the decision to suspend production in the show to avoid more a stretched situation at an emotional moment for our country,” Disney said in a statement provided at NPR. The company cited the concerns that “some of the comments were poorly informed and therefore insensitive”.

After starting “thoughtful conversations with Jimmy”, Disney said they had decided to resume the production of the show.
Kimmel’s suspension aroused generalized indignation. Monday, hundreds of artists, including Hamilton The Lin -Manuel Miranda creator and the current Marvel and Star Wars Pedro Pascal star – both with longtime professional ties with Disney – have signed an open letter condemning the company’s decision. The letter, published in collaboration with ACLU, also included signatures from Selena Gomez and Olivia Rodrigo, who both found early success as Disney actors.
The letter indicated in part: “This goes against the values on which our nation was built, and our guarantees of constitution … regardless of our political affiliation, or whether we are committed to politics or not in politics, we all love our country. We also share the belief that our voices should never be reduced to silence by those in power – because if that happens to us.”
