John Fetterman rushed to hospital after slamming face into ground during fall outside his home

SENATOR John Fetterman has been rushed to the hospital after falling outside his house.
The 56-year-old Pennsylvania Democrat suffered a sudden cardiac issue that left him stumbling and hitting his face on the ground.
The harrowing incident was announced through a spokesperson on Fetterman’s social media Thursday.
In a statement, the senator’s team said, “During an early morning walk, Senator Fetterman sustained a fall near his home in Braddock.
“Out of an abundance of caution, he was transported to a hospital in Pittsburgh.”
The spokesperson explained that Fetterman experienced a “ventricular fibrillation flare-up” that caused him to feel lightheaded and hit his face on the ground.

Ventricular fibrillation is a dangerous type of irregular heart rhythm that can stop blood from being pumped through the rest of the body.
This can lead to cardiac arrest, when the heart stops beating, and sudden cardiac death, according to the American Heart Association.
The rhythm can be caused by cardiomyopathy, which Fetterman was diagnosed with in 2022.
The senator was left with “minor injuries” and is expected to recover, the spokesperson said.
He’s staying in the hospital for now to speak with doctors about adjusting his medication regimen.
“Senator Fetterman had this to say: ‘If you thought my face looked bad before, wait until you see it now!’” read the statement.
FETTERMAN’S HEALTH BATTLES
Fetterman’s health battles have been a pressing issue that put strain on his 2022 campaign and left critical politicians questioning whether he was fit to serve.
While on the campaign trail, the politician suffered a major stroke that put him in the hospital and out of the public eye.
In a crucial debate with opponent Dr. Mehmet Oz, Fetterman appeared to have issues speaking and jumbled his words.
In 2023, after winning the election, the newly inaugurated senator checked himself into the hospital to get treatment for clinical depression.
Inside John Fetterman’s health battles
- May 13, 2022: Fetterman suffers a stroke caused by atrial fibrillation. He undergoes emergency surgery to receive a pacemaker and defibrillator.
- October 25, 2022: During a crucial debate against Dr. Mehmet Oz, Fetterman struggles to speak while still recovering from his stroke.
- February 8, 2023: While attending a Senate Democratic retreat, Fetterman begins feeling lightheaded and is rushed to a hospital for testing.
- February 10, 2023: Fetterman is released from the hospital after tests confirm the incident was not a stroke, and he returns to the Senate.
- February 15, 2023: Fetterman checks himself into a hospital for inpatient treatment of clinical depression. His office announces the following day that the depression had become “severe,” stating he had “battled mental health issues all his life.”
Just this week in his new memoir Unfettered, the politician revealed that, at the time, he was considering taking his own life.
He said he “felt nothing” on Election Day and was in a “daze of doom” in the weeks following his win.
Before going to the hospital, Fetterman moved in with his parents and shed a disturbing amount of weight as he refused to eat.
However, after getting treatment, the dad of three realized that the love he had for his family was the fuel he needed to get through his recovery.
“Whoever is in your life, they need you,” he told CBS News on Sunday.
