Josh Jacobs: Eagles called out our play on fourth-and-1
When Green Bay went for it on fourth-and-1 with 1:30 left in the fourth quarter last night, Philadelphia easily stopped Josh Jacobs’ run for a 4-yard loss.
If it seemed to you that the Eagles knew what was coming, well, they did.
“Fourth and one, they called our room” Jacobs said after the game, via Ryan Wood of PackersNews.com. “We ran it about four times, they called it. I had a good draw during our push. The clock was ticking down. We kind of broke it down faster than we wanted to, and they played.
I tried to throw the ball back to Jordan, that’s when the fumble happened, but at that point you’re playing backyard football. This is the fourth try. Yeah, that’s kind of how it happened.
Jacobs noted that it never feels good as a runner when the defense knows what you’re about to do.
“Anytime they know what we’re doing, it never makes me feel good because it’s made me change my mind about how I’m going to pass the ball, if we’re being honest,” Jacobs said. “It keeps me guessing what I’m going to do.”
“Obviously people are smart. If we have code words or something, you hear it a few times, eventually you’ll react to it. It’s football, but it’s never a good feeling.”
So how did this change the way Jacobs approached racing?
“They called it. We called our play. They said, ‘Inside the zone. He’s coming right here.’ So, I kind of didn’t want to run out there, but yeah,” Jacobs said.
Jacobs’ comments reflect a broader negative trend for the Packers’ offense, which has had particularly poor performances over the past two weeks.
We’ll see if the offense can become less predictable in Week 11 on the road against the Giants.
