A UTAH judge threw a key in the plan of the Republican Party for a clean scanning of the seats of the State Congress on Monday, hitting the GOP card as illegal.

The judge of the District Court Dianna Gibson judge That the UTAH congress card, adopted in 2021, must be redesigned because the legislature controlled by the GOP has violated guarantees approved by voters against the “partisan gerrymandering” when the map was created. The decision is the last of the climbing of the national redistribution battle, while the Democrats and the Republicans compete for additional seats in the congress before the mid-term of 2026.

“The nature of the violation lies in the refusal of the Legislative Assembly to respect the popular exercise of their constitutional power of the legislation and to honor the right of the people to reform their government,” said Gibson in the decision. Voters approved an election initiative in 2018 which created an independent redistribution organization, but legislators adopted 200 SB in 2020, which makes the role of the Commission, according to the Dispatch of Utah News. When the 2020 census data arrived, the legislator ignored the commission’s proposal and designed its own card, reported the point of sale.

“The applicants have proven, in law, that the legislator has repealed unconstitutionally Proposal 4 and promulgated SB 200, in violation of the fundamental law of the people to the reform Rediscovering in Utah and prohibiting the partisan gerrymandering, ”wrote Gibson in the decision.

The decision gives legislators until September 24 to deliver new cards. The voting rights groups that have brought legal action will also be authorized to submit proposals for the court to examine.

An independent redatement of the four districts of the Utah Congress could make a competitive seat for the Democrats, according to Politico. But GOP leaders should appeal and potentially stall the process, perhaps until 2028.

“Once again, some members of the UTAH judiciary abandon the principles of our constitutional republic,” said the president of Utah Gop, Robert Axon statement. “Using previous imperfect decisions to justify their opinions on the principles of our foundation is a special type of pride – judicial activism in action!”

Utah Gop did not respond to the request for comments from the Daily Call News Foundation.

Utah’s Republican Senator Mike Lee expressed similar concerns in a statement according to the decision.

“The courts of UTAH now invalidate both the amendments of the Legislative Assembly and the current cards of the UTAH Congress district, even if nothing in the Constitution of UTAH is summed up, and in fact, article IX of the Constitution of UTAH * requires * * * of the legislative districts for the Democrats of UTA The voters do not like what the Democratic Party is Intelligent the scoring by recruiting the help of their judicial allies.

The State Democrats, on the other hand, announced the decision as a victory for the voters and an opportunity to hold the responsible Republicans.

“Finally, despite the best efforts of legislative supermajority, Utahns will obtain equitable cards and a real representation, which they voted almost eight years ago,” said the president of the Democratic Party of Utah, Brian King statement. “Utah Democrats are ready to travel the ground next year, and we are impatient to hold the Republicans responsible for their voters in these new fairly drawn districts.”

A national redistribution fight started after the Texas Republicans propose – and finally approved – A new Congress map which could give their party five additional seats in the congress. The Democratic Governor of California Gavin Newsom and the State Democrats followed by passage A trio of invoices that will allow a special election in November to redraw their cards.

California voters in November must approve the transfer of the state -of -the -art author authority for the State’s independent commission to the state legislature. Several republican state legislators have heard To prevent Democrats from moving forward with redistribution.
