His first visit saw his meeting staff in Sudbury Silk Mills, who weaves fabrics for three exclusive companies; Stephen Walters, David Walters and Humphries weaving. Using more than a hundred people, they combine traditional artisanal design and weaving with latest cutting -edge technology to produce exceptional quality fabrics. There are more than 40 cutting -edge looms in operation at the mill, producing a wide range of tailor -made fabrics to order fashion houses, interior designers and heritage institutions.

Sudbury Silk Mills emphasizes its inhabitants and the local community, and is proud to create a job for local populations in roles with long -term training and development, allowing them to develop their skills and knowledge. During her visit, Kate Middleton spent time with the design team and observes the creative process, from the use of the Sudbury archives for inspiration to draw hand conceptions that will be used in future fabric creations. His Royal Highness then went to the weaving floor to meet members of the production team, hear about their work and see the loom in operation, before observing the quality control process and the final inspections of the finished woven tissue.
