Keep an Eye on Rahm Emanuel – RedState

Thursday January 22, 2026

Hello and welcome to RedState’s “Morning Minute” – a quick look at the stories trending right now and a preview of what the day might bring. Consider this your one-stop shop for information to start your day.

TOP O’LE MORNING’

Red Hot at RedState

Pure gold: This article on ‘Blue Lives Matter’ could reveal the largest operation against anti-ICE teams to date

They don’t say they did it, mind you. But boy, do I love it! And where can you register? You can also do things like spam places where ICE isn’t located with ICE watch phone numbers, thus ruining their ability to track ICE, if you have a few spare minutes to fiddle with them.

Barron Trump kept his cool in a dangerous moment – then saved a woman’s life

Barron, 19, faced a difficult situation – but showed composure under fire. Nice work, young man.

Yikes: Alleged anti-ICE sentiment after ‘nasty’ incident involving NYC hospital and NYPD detectives

Former New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) fled after hearing about the incident and called on New York Governor Kathy Hochul (D), who is up for re-election, to take action against the hospital.

Trend in town hall media

Armed citizen takes on would-be kidnapper and makes the world safer for everyone

I’m sorry this family had to endure this kind of nightmare. I’m sorry that the armed citizen now has to face the fact that he took a human life, which is not particularly easy for most decent people.

However, I do not regret that this piece of pond scum was removed from the realm of the living.

Virginia Bill “Make Fraud Legal”

Everyone is looking for fraud, so Democrats decided to make the search even harder.

So on the brand.

JD Vance’s next move will leave the left angry

It’s unclear at this point whether Vance will meet Walz or Frey – my guess is he won’t, or more likely, they’ll both brag about not meeting him – but it would be really cool to see Vance and Walz face off again. I still have fond memories of the pair from the 2024 vice presidential debate, when Vance completely destroyed Walz.

Can you feel the excitement? Kamala is back and in the lead!

She’s an idiot and she’s a loser. But hey, she’s a Democrat, so maybe those are actually advantages.

Oh NO, boys and girls! Ms. Rachel is in BIG trouble for being anti-Semitic and lying about it (Vid)

What’s with this stupid chick?

And why are the children watching her?

WHAT’S ON THE POSTER?

Today, at the Capitol…

Several hearings/meetings will take place on the Hill on Thursday, including:

  • House Energy and Commerce, Subcommittee on Health—Reducing Health Care Costs for All Americans: An Examination of Health Insurance Affordability
  • House Subcommittee on Homeland Security, Border Security, and Law Enforcement — “Smarter Borders, Safer Nation: Expanding the Use of Non-Intrusive Inspection Technology”
  • House Science, Space, and Technology — Assessing U.S. Leadership in Quantum Science and Technology
  • House Judiciary — “Oversight of Special Counsel Jack Smith’s Office”
  • House Oversight and Government Reform, Economic Growth, Energy Policy, and Regulatory Affairs Subcommittee — “Housing Affordability: Saving the American Dream”

Yes, this Jack Smith hearing will, without a doubt, be a blast.

On top of all that, the House will have a hard time passing the last of these appropriations bills before the critters leave ahead of the weekend and the expected winter storm.

What’s new at the White House

After a busy Wednesday in Davos, President Trump will participate in the announcement of the Peace Charter on Thursday before leaving Switzerland to return to the United States.

Huge development in Davos as Trump announces ‘framework’ for Greenland deal, drops euro tariffs

Vice President JD Vance will be in Minneapolis on Thursday to hold a roundtable discussion with local leaders and community members and deliver a speech focused on restoring law and order in Minnesota.

Follow the Firm

Second. Interior – Doug Burgum — Burgum joined Fox & Friends Thursday morning to tout the strategic importance of President Trump’s efforts to acquire Greenland.

Plenary press…

We had several notable court rulings on Wednesday, including:

  • ↔️ United States vs. Maxwell (Epstein/Sex Trafficking Files) — Judge Paul Engelmayer (Southern District of New York) DENIES the motion to intervene filed by Ro Khanna and Thomas Massie.
  • ✅ The Sustainability Institute against Trump (Suspension or Termination of Environmental and Agricultural Subsidies) — The 4th Circuit Court of Appeal REVERSES (and remands) the district court’s order granting a preliminary injunction.
  • ❌ King County v. Turner (ban on DEIA initiatives) — Judge Barbara Rothstein (Western District of Washington) GRANTS plaintiffs’ fourth motion for preliminary injunction.

UPCOMING ATTRACTIONS

The creatures have just over a week to get the rest of the appropriations bills across the finish line, and a winter storm is bearing down on DC. Definitely keep an eye on this. And, by the way, keep an eye on your neighbors if you’re in an affected area: make sure everyone has heat and is willing to hunker down for a few days.

MORNING REFLECTION

There are advantages to having lived a long time and having seen a lot: being older and wiser is one thing. I’d like to think I’m wiser than I used to be – there’s no denying I’m older! But someone whose experience and wisdom I regularly lean on here at RedState is my good friend Andrew Malcolm. Andrew has seen a thing or two over his years (and if you’re not reading his Sunday morning columns or episodes of Malcolm’s Memories, you’re missing out!)

I remember almost a year ago editing and reading one of Andrew’s Sunday morning columns and thinking, “Hmm…maybe he’s on to something here.”

SEE: For 2028, Democrats have no one. Or do they?

Indeed, we’re starting to see additional hints that Rahm Emanuel may be gearing up for a presidential campaign in 2028, and unlike Kamala Harris or Gavin Newsom, Emanuel has detectable activity between his ears. The other day we saw Emanuel take the bold(?) stance that men cannot become women.

SEE: Democratic candidates for 2028: 19 in 20 think biology is just a suggestion

Today we see Emanuel calling for an age limit of 75 for civil servants.

Did you notice anything about these two issues/positions? They are not crazy progressives – they are even likely to have bipartisan support.

I see a very savvy political creature beginning to stake out his middle/moderate path. Will it work? Well, some might say the left has gone too far for that to happen. But all I will say is: underestimate him, at your peril.
