Kiev comes under major Russian missile and drone attack

Russia has launched a large-scale attack on the Ukrainian capital kyiv with drones and ballistic missiles, according to warnings posted by the Ukrainian Air Force on Telegram.
The military also warned of a possible Russian attack with the new Oreshnik medium-range missile.
The kyiv Independent reported a “series of explosions” in the capital on Sunday morning. Eyewitnesses on social media also reported hearing explosions.

The scale of the Russian attack and its consequences were not immediately clear.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned on Saturday evening that an attack by the Oreshniks was expected. Citing intelligence information, he said kyiv was also in danger.
Zelensky warned of a possible combined Russian attack involving different types of weapons and urged people to take shelter during air raid warnings.
At first, it was unclear whether Russia had actually used an Oreshnik medium-range missile in the nighttime attack on kyiv.
Russia has already used this ballistic missile, which has particularly high destructive power, twice in its war against Ukraine: once without a warhead in the city of Dnipro, in the southeast of the country, and more recently in western Ukraine in January.
