Largest piece of Mars on Earth fetches meteoric $5.3 million at New York auction

This is another dazzling climb for what is called the largest piece of Mars on Earth. 54 pounds’ rock brought in nearly $ 5.3 million during an auction at Sotheby’s in New York on Wednesday. The buyer’s identity has not been disclosed. The red, brown and gray meteorite would have been destroyed from the surface of Mars by a massive asteroid strike. A meteorite hunter found it in the Sahara desert in Niger in 2023. Sotheby’s says that it is 70% larger than the next biggest piece of March found on this planet. Also on sale on sale on Wednesday, a skeleton of juvenile ceratosaurus dinosaurus which sold $ 30.5 million.
