Major health provider data breach may have affected thousands more people – over 700k now thought to have been hit

- TriZetto Provider Solutions Breaches Exposed Sensitive Data of Over 700,000 People
- Stolen information includes names, SSNs, insurer details and membership numbers
- This violation gave rise to class action lawsuits against Cognizant, the parent company of TPS.
The number of people affected by the TriZetto Provider Solutions (TPS) data breach is now estimated to have exceeded 700,000 people, far more than initially thought.
Deschutes County Health Services (DCHS), one of TPS’s clients, confirmed the news in a recent data breach notification posted to its website.
In the data breach notification letter, it was stated that TPS spotted unauthorized activity in October 2025 and launched an investigation, which determined that the bad actors had broken in nearly a year earlier, in November 2024. Since then, they have exfiltrated sensitive personal and health data on more than 700,000 people.
Extort victims
The data belongs to TPS customers, it was said, and some of the organizations involved are Deschutes County Health Services, Best Care and La Pine Community Health Center. None of these companies were breached themselves: the breach occurred only in TPS’s infrastructure.
The data exposed varies from person to person, but generally includes names, addresses, dates of birth, social security numbers (SSN), health insurer names, health insurance membership numbers, and provider names.
DCHS stressed that no medical or treatment information, or payment data, was collected during the attack.
TriZetto Provider Solutions is a healthcare technology company and subsidiary of Cognizant that provides healthcare organizations with software and services for revenue cycle management and claims processing.
Some of its clients include Denver Health and Hospital Authority, EmblemHealth, Bucksport Regional Health Center and others.
We don’t know exactly how the attack happened or who the perpetrators of the threat were. As of press time, the data has not yet been attacked, but it can be used in all kinds of scams. For example, scammers may launch highly targeted scams and phishing scams, posing as a health insurer, tricking people into revealing more information or making payments.
Additionally, they may commit medical identity fraud, using insurance numbers and insurer contact information to obtain medical services, prescription drugs, or submit false insurance claims.
According to The registerthe violation gave rise to several class action lawsuits against Cognizant.
