Caleb Sanchez, a Cali boy, has thrilled his memories of in-n-out sun, beaches and hamburgers to obtain an Ivy League education and football experience at Columbia University in New York.

He became one of the most spoken quarter-first year at the end of last season, spending 241 yards and three affected in a 21-12 victory against Brown and passing for 201 Yards in a 19-11 victory against Cornell who helped Columbia win the title Ivy League.

Then came the real challenge – snow, a blizzard and icy temperatures.

“I was very shocked,” he said. “I was warned every day that winter would be difficult. I did not expect it to be as cold as it was. ”

It was not cold enough to discourage Sanchez from continuing his quest to balance athletics and academics. He started his second season on Saturday as a quarter-rescue in the defeat of Columbia 38-14 against Lafayette. This is another experience he got used to in St. John Bosco, waiting for his last year to become the starting quarter and prove his capacity,

He is one of the 39 graduates of schools in the South section to play football Ivy League this season. Harvard-Westlake and Loyola have the most with five players each.

There are going to be stars, like Princeton’s defensive back, Tahj Owens (Loyola), before his fourth season, and the receiver of Yale Nico Brown (Edison), who had five captures for 119 yards and a touchdown during his seasonal beginnings against Holy Cross on Saturday.

Sanchez was able to redrash last season as a recruit, having only played in the last three games, and the objective is to be out of competition in the next three seasons, to win his precious diploma in Columbia and to spend a fifth year in a perhaps important university program.

He has no regrets to seek an Ivy League experience after helping St. John Bosco to reach the Championship match of Division 1 in 2023.

“I’m going to go here with one of the best diplomas in the world,” he said.

It is the attraction of a league where the eight schools do not participate in the sharing of zero income with the students, but will finally allow the football teams to participate in the FCS qualifiers this season.

Students must be completely in academics and athletics.

“We are 100% at school, 100% in football,” said Sanchez. “There is no help for football players. The teachers don’t care. They treat you like normal students. ”

Sanchez, 20, rarely has free time. These are lessons, meetings, homework, practices, watch films, then sleep. Its transition last year was difficult in that Columbia’s offense was very different from that of St. John Bosco. He had to learn parts with 20 to 30 words to call from a listening device in his helmet where only four words were used to call parts to St. John Bosco.

He measures 6 feet 3½ and 217 pounds, and could prepare to have a season that will attract a lot of attention. Ryu, Ryu, a sixth year student with a future in football and academics.

Look for a lot of good news from the Sanchez brothers in the years to come.

As for the change in time to come, Sanchez said he was ready.

“I’m ready now. Winter will not shock me. “
