LG Antonio Delgado is missing in action

While Lieutenant Awol, Governor Antonio Delgado, spends 41% of his time funded by taxpayers to do so many things, which could inspire an episode of “Seinfeld”, New Yorkers may wonder where they can find an example of Lieutenant strong. Fortunately, they do not have to look for further than Governor Hochul – who taught an effective leading master class during his previous mandate as a lieutenant.
I had the privilege of working with Kathy Hochul when she had the role that Delgado no longer wanted and her dedication to serve the inhabitants of this state was just as unwavering as today.
When she saw the scourge of rape and sexual assault on university campuses, and the non-response of administrations and the pure and simple victim accused in the process, then-LT. Governor Hochul has demonstrated courage and leadership to express themselves and take action.
She used her post as a lieutenant to help to pass sufficient legislation to the nation is sufficient legislation to combat sexual assault on university campuses. By working together, we have taken countless hours to organize advocacy groups, to galvanize the support of the base, to educate and convince legislators on the merits and to put the work necessary to have the bill adopted.
After his law, LG Hochul continued, literally. She travels New York, directly meeting students, teachers and college staff on a state scale to ensure that they understood the law. She passed out cards the size of a portfolio with information on the new law and the number of the state police hotline. On New York campuses, she clearly said she was there and this support was still available.
As a Lieutenant Governor, Hochul was a battle horse, declaring: “We are not fatigue. I don’t want stop time. I don’t need it. ” From cooking tables to economic development meetings at town halls – it was (and remains) an element of all 62 counties in New York.
At the time, Hochul said: “There is a strong feeling that it is my moment to make a difference. I know that in elected office, it is not mine, it is for voters. I know that I have a finite time – the duration of a term is all that you have given to you to have an impact.” Delgado, on the other hand, has so far recorded 135 days of the week with Zero has reported work in three years as a lieutenant-governor.
It’s been 27 weeks of vacation. Europe does not even give so much free time.
And yet it gets worse. According to the same request for freedom of information, the first 1,011 Delgado days as LG consisting of one or zero programmed events or meetings on its calendar, or 41% of the time. Berblootant at 415 days, it is much over a year.
Compare this with the Hochul calendar while the Lieutenant Governor. She recorded enough mileage traveling the state to go around the earth more than 10 times. It was a force behind sufficient legislation, visiting the campus after the campus to listen to the survivors, the parents and the administrators while advancing the law which is now a national model.
She chaired the successful adoption of the Reproductive Health Act, protecting the right to choose and ensure that contraception is universally covered in New York. She managed to visit the state by pleading for the adoption of the red flag bill to increase the safety of firearms, which was finally signed. And it has reuthorized and expanded the advanced MWBE program to empower women and people from color entrepreneurs.
Hochul is committed to building a stronger and fair state as a lieutenant-government. She did – and continues to do – work, she presented herself for New Yorkers, and our state is better for that.
The role of Lieutenant Governor is largely what you are able and willing to do with it. Even Lieutenant-Governor worker fought with the generalized perception that it is a largely ceremonial position without a discount. On the other hand, Kathy Hochul has maximized the role of the Lieutenant Governor to make significant changes to the people of New York.
