LG will let TV owners remove Microsoft’s Copilot app after backlash

Earlier this week, several LG owners called attention to the fact that Microsoft Copilot suddenly appeared pinned to their smart TV’s home screen, with no option to uninstall it.
The Copilot icon was reportedly added during a recent webOS update. Although the shortcut could be hidden, it was not possible to completely remove it. Many felt it was forced and unacceptable.
LG previously announced its partnership with Microsoft as part of its “AI TV” initiative. According to the company, Copilot will be used to provide AI-based search and recommendation assistance directly within the TV interface.
After the backlash, LG announced that the company would “take steps to allow users to remove the shortcut icon if they wish,” Engadget reports.
LG also clarified that the Copilot icon is not an installed app, as many thought, but a shortcut that opens the AI chatbot in the TV’s browser.
