Wyze’s $20 socket powers an outdoor camera, makes a dumb bulb smart

Keeping a powered outdoor camera can be a annoying problem, involving solar panels, swapbletable batteries, outdoor wiring or a combination of the three. Add smart lights to the mixture and your configuration will become even more complicated.
Do you want to simplify the questions? If you have one or more outdoor intakes, you can mount and wire a Wyze security camera in a flash, and even add intelligence to the conventional bulbs of your court.
The trick is to use the $ 20 lamp of Wyze lamp, a screwed adapter for a standard exterior lighting that allows you to connect and supply a nearby Wyze security camera as well as screw a regular bulb, which you can then control via the Wyze application.
The Wyze lamp intake has been around for a few years now – the original is released in 2021, but this new more powerful version works with a larger variety of Wyze cameras, including the Wyze Cam V3, V3 Pro, V4, CAM OG and PAN V3.
The installation is easy. You have just screwed the V2 lamp socket (first spotted by 9TO5GOOGLE) in an existing socket, connect a nearby Wyze camera to the USB supply port of the lamp socket (you will need to use the cable that originally came with the Wyze cam), then screw a conventional bulb in the E26 receptacle. Although you can screw almost any stupid bulb in the lamp socket, Wyze warns against the use of an incandescent bulb due to the excessive heat it will radiate.
Once it is done, you will be able to control the connected bulb using the Wyze application, which means that you can turn it on remotely, put it on a calendar and adjust it to light up at dusk and turn off at dawn. You can even turn the bulb on automatically when your Wyze cam detects the movement.
If you have more light sockets in your courtyard or outdoor space, you can add more Wyze lamp sockets and group them, allowing all the connected lights to light and go out in unison.
Although only five of the original lamps take can be grouped, you can bring together an unlimited number of new V2 units of more recent lamp socket. We contacted Wyze for more details on the maximum beach for wireless grouping (the original lamp sockets had a range of 82 feet).
Keep in mind that at least one of the lamp sockets must be connected to a compatible Wyze cam; The sockets will not work alone.
The Wyze product page also notes that if the lamp sockets can be used outside, they are not resistant to bad weather or water, which means that they are better used under a downstream or in an external light.
