Liverpool plans confirmed after major transfer update emerges

Arne Slot and Richard Hughes have a lot to answer for this season.
If Liverpool don’t manage to win the Champions League this term, it’s unclear whether they’ll even qualify for the competition next season.

And, since they were beaten 1-0 by Galatasaray in the first left of their round of 16 tie, there’s going to be even more pressure upon their heads when Wednesday’s tie against the Super Lig club comes around.
Due to their poor form, several summer transfers have already been mooted and, as per a fresh update from The Athletic, it’s now clearer than ever what Liverpool plan to do.
Liverpool will sign Yan Diomande as the replacement for Mohamed Salah and Federico Chiesa
The Athletic outline that ‘potential changes’ lie ahead for Mohamed Salah and that Federico Chiesa exiting Anfield would ‘suit all parties’ due to his lack of appearances.

One of the Reds’ main problems this season has been the lack of form that their attack has shown.
Indeed, there have been times when Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz have proven their worth and have shown why Slot and Hughes chose to bring them in.
However, if they want to become the best team in the world they need the best players and, if the 2025-26 season has proven anything, it’s that Chiesa and Salah are not as good as they used to be.
But, if both of the attackers are moved on, a massive void will need to be filled which is where Yan Diomande would come in.
Yan Diomande could help transform Liverpool’s attack to suit Arne Slot’s new system
On their day, Cody Gakpo and Salah can be two of the Premier League’s most dangerous players.

However, with the lack of consistency they’ve shown this season, it’s clear that change is needed and that some competition for their positions could really help move things along.
And, since Slot has recently changed Liverpool’s playing style, it’s clear that some fresh faces are needed to get the club back to their best.
Diomande would be the perfect signing for Liverpool as his ability to take opponents on is unmatched and he also has a keen eye for goal.
This is why the Ivorian is in the form of his life at the moment with the 19-year-old already contributing to 18 goals across all competitions thus far.

The winger would certainly cost Liverpool a lot of money to sign but, since he’s still so young and is only likely to get better as he gets older, it feels like the money Slot and Hughes would spend on him would be worthwhile.
There’s obviously no knowing what the future has in store for Liverpool and Diomande but, if Salah is sold in the summer, the RB Leipzig star should be on top of Slot’s shortlist.
