Opposition to the joint US-Israeli attack on Iran has been broad and swift, fueled in part by Trump derangement syndrome – if he’s behind it, they will reliably oppose it – and also tinged with anti-Semitism.

The smoke from the Iran bombings had not yet cleared when Democrats began shouting their objections, with Connecticut Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy, for example, calling them “dangerously illegal and a mistake of staggering proportions” and denouncing the president as a “wannabe dictator.” Murphy has also called Israeli policies in Gaza and the West Bank “immoral” and recently announced that he would not support additional military aid to Israel.

Anti-Israel Democrats in the House have been particularly vocal, with Michigan “Squad” member Rashida Tlaib posting: “It is clear that Israel’s genocidal government does not care about children or human life, including our own loved ones in the military.” » She also posted: “The Israeli government is addicted to bombing hospitals, schools and refugee camps, all of which constitute war crimes.”

Democrats have been moving away from their traditional support for Israel for some time, and especially since the far left took over their party. Mamdani misread the room, assuming that Iranians living in the United States would react as he did to the attack on the mullahs. Instead, joyful Iranians gathered in Times Square to celebrate the end of one of the most hated and savage regimes in history.
