On CNN International’s “The Brief” Friday, CNN senior correspondent Josh Campbell discussed video of the Minneapolis shooting and said that while officers are trained not to step in front of vehicles, “it appears from other perspectives that he was probably hit by that car, and so under the policy an officer can articulate, I felt my life was in danger, I opened fire. But there are big questions based on the angle he was at, were there other options, could he have jumped sideways? “That’s a big question.

Campbell said: “[H]He gets in front of that vehicle, and I tell you, law enforcement officers are basically trained not to put themselves in that situation. This training takes place from coast to coast across the country. But as she turns the wheel and starts moving forward, it appears from other vantage points that he was probably hit by this car, and so, under the policy an officer can articulate, I felt my life was in danger, I opened fire. But there are big questions depending on what angle he was in: were there other options, could he have gotten out of the way? That’s a big question.

He added: “Every agent and officer in this country, when they open fire, is responsible for every shot, they have to know what is beyond that target. We learn here, in this case, that the agent fired, opened fire, shooting in the direction of these bystanders. Fortunately, no one else was hit.”
