Kansas men’s basketball coach has 2 stents inserted

Lawrence, Kan. – Kansas basketball coach Bill Self inserted two stents into his heart to treat the arteries blocked Thursday at Lawrence Memorial hospital after “feeling badly and having lived some of the symptoms”.
“The procedure went very well and it should recover completely,” the Kansas sports department said in a press release. “He’s in a good mood and expects to be published soon from the hospital.”
Self, 62, led the last summer session training Thursday morning while he is preparing for his 23 years as Jayhawks coach. He missed Big 12 and NCAA 2023 tournaments due to heart disease, obtaining standard catheterization and inserted two stents to help treat the blocked arteries.
Self led Kansas to national titles in 2008 and 2022 and is the school victory leader of the school with a record of 609-156. Inducted at the temple of the Basketball of Basketball of Naismith Memorial in 2017, the former Oklahoma State player also led by Oral Roberts, Tulsa and the Illinois.
