Man, 47, found dead on Randalls Island with severe head trauma


A 47-year-old man was found dead in a pool of blood with apparent head trauma in the bed of a city Parks Department truck on Randalls Island Friday morning, police and sources said.
The gruesome scene was discovered near Bronx Shore Rd. and Central Road. around 7 a.m., cops said. A Parks Department employee discovered the man covered in blood, with significant trauma to his head and body, in the bed of the truck during an inspection of the vehicle in a closed parking lot, according to a law enforcement source with knowledge of the matter.
Emergency services intervened and pronounced the man dead on the spot.
He wore a hospital bracelet around his wrist and did not appear to be a Parks employee, the source said.
The police are investigating.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the man’s cause of death.
His identity is being withheld until his family is notified.
