Man accused of killing Muslim teen indicted on capital murder charges

A great jury officially charged a 22 -year -old man of murder of capital and rape in the death of Nabra Hassanen, who was killed during her walking in a mosque in Virginia.
The Fairfax County Circuit Court charged Darwin Martinez-Torres on Sterling, Virginia on Monday, for four counts of capital murder for killing Nabra, who was with friends while they were taking a meal before the Ramadan services. Dozens of people had gathered outside the courthouse today, Sing “Justice for Nabra”.
Virginia’s law has specific conditions to continue the death penalty, but the Associated Press said that the accusation of the Grand Jury described in detail how Nabra’s murder was the reason for the death penalty against Martinez-Torres. The indictment seems to recognize for the first time that the 17 -year -old Muslim adolescent was raped. Under the state law, the combination of an accusation of rape with a premeditated murder accusation means that the death penalty can be continued.
The police said that Martinez-Torres, who is an undocumented immigrant, entered a confrontation on June 18 with a group of teenagers returning to the Muslim company All Dulles after having a late meal. He is accused of coming back later and beating Nabra with a baseball bat. Police said Nabra’s body was later discovered in a pond. An affidavit of the search mandate revealed that Martinez-Torres admitted to having killed Nabra and had led the authorities to the site of her body, reported AP.
Nabra’s parents and Muslim defenders said Nabra’s death was motivated by hatred, but the police said they would not treat murder as a crime of hatred. Instead, police said it was an incident on road rage.
“The reason why this guy he hit my daughter is because she is Muslim,” Nabra’s father, Mahmoud Hassanen, told Wamu. “For what [didn’t he] Hit the boy who bothered him?
Nabra’s father added that he hoped for the death penalty, while her mother said that she wanted Martinez-Torres to be serving life prison.
“I just want people to remember her and don’t forget it,” Mahmoud told Wamu. “I think no one can also forget it, for what she has done in her life.”
A preliminary hearing for Martinez-Torres would have become emotional on Friday, Nabra’s parents both shouting in the suspect in court. Nabra Sawsan Gazzar’s mother apparently launched a shoe on Martinez-Torres during the procedure.
