Man who helped girl attacked by shark in Florida detained by Ice officials | US immigration

A man who helped save a nine -year -old girl after being attacked and seriously injured by a shark in Florida was owned by the immigration authorities – and he could be expelled.

Luis Alvarez was arrested in the early hours of June 14 after the police said he was driving without headlights, according to an arrest report seen by Fort Myers’ press. The newspaper revealed that Alvarez was detained in prison by immigration and the application of the United States (ICE) customs.

As Donald Trump promised it during his victorious presidential election in 2024, the White House leads a national repression against immigration with large ice sweeping that have triggered generalized fears in many communities across the United States.

The Trump administration said that the priority for the repression of immigration is to target dangerous criminals. But recent data has shown an increase in people with no criminal history targeted by repression.

Being in the United States without legal status is not a criminal offense – it is a civil offense.

Alvarez had been involved in the shark attack widely reported against Leah Lendel, nine, when the young person was bitten on June 9 while swimming in shallow waters off Boca Grande, in Florida. Alvarez was on the beach during the attack and run in the water to help the injured child, according to witnesses and reports from local media.

The hand of Lendel was almost cut after the attack.

Alvarez was the first person in the water while he was trying to scare the shark, said his colleague Raynel Lugo in an interview with local Fox4 News television station.

“He jumped in this area to get her out when I helped Leah,” said Lugo to the diffuser, “he went deep underwater, not even cared for the shark. He went very deeply. He probably faced the shark.”

Alvarez is now planned for a hearing before a judge on July 9. The police would have described him as from Boaco, Nicaragua.
