Podcasting pioneer and comedian Marc Maron has opened up about his longtime rivalry with Jon Stewart.

“Jon never did anything to me,” the 61-year-old comedian told Esquire. “I was just jealous.”

Maron admitted in an interview published Thursday that he and Stewart were about the same age and had similar qualities, but that the “smart, cute Jewish guy” was better able to exploit and capitalize on his talents.

“I remember when he did the MTV show, and then he got the talk show and he got me on, but my desire for him was always the same – I would just shit on him, and to his face, like, ‘Who do you think you are?'” Maron claimed.

He said there was a time when the 62-year-old host of “The Daily Show” seemed to be everywhere.

“For some reason, I looked at it as, ‘If I could only pull myself together, I could be more like this guy,’” Maron said.

Maron said during a July taping of PBS’s “Wild Card” podcast that he previously tried to convince Stewart to resolve their differences on air, but it didn’t work.

“I don’t do that,” Stewart reportedly replied in a phone call. “Whatever you do…there’s no love here.” »

Maron said in this PBS interview: “He doesn’t particularly like me. »

The New Jersey native announced in June that he was stepping down from his show “WTF with Marc Maron” after 16 years of producing nearly 1,700 podcasts. His last show aired Monday with a visit from former President Barack Obama.
