Mark Zuckerberg Is Expanding His Secretive Hawaii Compound. Part of It Sits Atop a Burial Ground
Child, Julian Ako would visit the house of his maternal great-grandfather near Pilaa beach in Kauai, Hawaii, where he and his family would bring together edible mushrooms that grow on Kukui trees and collect algae and fish from the reef.
For about a decade, this land belongs to the meta-PDG Mark Zuckerberg, which builds a massive compound at an estimated cost which exceeds $ 300 million. Wired can now reveal that the property of Zuckerberg is at the top of a burial place: the great-grandmother of Ako and his brother were buried on the ground.
After months of discussions with a Zuckerberg representative, Ako managed to access the property and identify and record the tombs with the State Department of Land and Natural Resources, although it has not been able to locate the remains of other ancestors, which, according to him, could be buried on the property. In a report shared with Wired, the State Agency also confirmed “the probability (based on oral testimony) of additional burial sites”. The visits to the tombs of Ako’s family are coordinated by the Ranch Zuckerberg team. Ako, who sits on the Funeral Council of the island of Oahu, is concerned about what could happen if other interruption sites were discovered, due to the extreme secrecy surrounding the compound.
Although the NDAs are not unusual on billionaire construction projects, the extent of the Zuckerberg compound led to the ban on dozens of local workers to share what they are doing and for whom they work. “If all the workers have signed these non-disclosure agreements, then they are sworn to silence,” said Ako. “If they discover iWi– or bones – it will be a challenge for it to ever become public knowledge, because they put their work in danger. »»
Asked about these burials, the representative of Zuckerberg, Brandi Hoffine Barr, acknowledged that the succession had been informed of the buried family in 2015, that Hoffine Barr says that they closed and maintained. Meanwhile, Zuckerberg has quietly expanded his footprint on the island with a new purchase of solid land, can reveal Wired.
