Massie’s Hot Take on Why He Lost Is Likely to Raise Eyebrows With KY Voters and Boomers – RedState

Republican Rep. Thomas Massie (KY-04) lost his primary last week by 10 points to former Navy SEAL Ed Gallrein.

Gallrein was endorsed by President Donald Trump. Massie had been attacking Trump on a variety of issues, including Operation Epic Fury and the Epstein files. He also voted against Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill.”

“Meet the Press” host Kristen Welker asked him about why the voters rejected him, noting the comment of one voter who thought of him almost as a “Republican in Name Only (RINO).” Massie’s response showed part of the reason he lost. He claimed there were “a lot of misinformed, uninformed voters.”

“They used artificial intelligence to create a video, lifelike video, that showed me checking into a hotel room with AOC and Ilhan Omar and holding hands with them,” Massie said.

“It was actually very effective on the boomers. But here’s the thing, Kristen. That’s only going to work for a little bit longer. The boomers are going to, you know, leave this country to the Gen X, and the Gen Z, and the Gen Y, and the millennials. And those folks are the ones that I won overwhelmingly. That makes me really hopeful for this country. They don’t get fooled by artificial intelligence, and they check the news. They get news sources, like from podcasts and other sources. So they won this race by fooling my voters and expanding the base of people who vote to the uninformed voters. But, look, I got 45 percent of the vote.”

Yikes. So it isn’t that they didn’t think he wasn’t sufficiently supportive of Trump or that he was aligning with Democrats on issues, or not focused on Kentucky. It’s because boomers are stupid and are deceived by AI ads. But, hey, no worries, those boomers are going to “leave the country” to the future generations (translation: die) who get news from “podcasts.”

Is it any wonder he’s lost touch with Kentucky voters when he talks like this?

Pro tip? Yes, boomers can discern when content is AI, particularly when the PAC ad had “This satirical ad is created with artificial intelligence” running on the bottom.

Meanwhile, a PAC that supported Massie ran an AI ad against Gallrein.

In an AI-generated video, a scared Gallrein flees from a Trump rally and, in another clip, Gallrein appears to flee from a battlefield as Trump shoots at unseen enemies. It does not include any apparent disclosures that AI was used.

“Trump was in the foxhole,” the narrator says, “Woke Eddie Gallrein tucked his tail and ran.”

As we reported, Massie’s campaign also sent out last-minute texts with an old Trump endorsement from 2022. So why is the campaign sending that out at the last-minute if not to make the voters think he had the endorsement of Trump?

How about just recognizing you have to pay more attention to your own voters, rather than podcasters or progressives? It’s really that simple.

But it sounds like he thinks he might have future possibilities, telling Welker he hasn’t ruled anything in or out” regarding a 2028 presidential run in the future. If he thinks he’s going to walk past Vice President JD Vance (or Secretary of State Marco Rubio), I think he’s misjudging again.
