Historical injustices such as slavery and colonialism are not just issues of the past, but active forces shaping inequality and development today, according to a new legal study published in a leading book on human rights in Africa. A new chapter co-authored by Mr Olusegun Gbede, Professor of Law at the University of East London, and Dr Olalekan Bello, from the University of Leicester, argues that the economic and social legacies of historical exploitation continue to influence contemporary outcomes in African states and should be addressed within broader frameworks of justice and restoration.
