Mets keep postseason dream alive after offense helps secure series win vs. Cubs

Chicago – Dies are often broken down, but they never seem to be out of the race.
A few hours after the Cincinnati Reds beat Pittsburgh Pirates to go to a 1/2 game in the NL Wild Card classification, the Amazins were with an 8-5 victory against the Chicago Cubs. Despite the external field of the Cubs by making several readings against the food, and their hottest striker, Francisco Alvarez, on the bench after treated with low body cramps in the second match in the series, they maintained their season alive on Tuesday evening in Wrigley Field.
The advance on the Reds is back in a match, and their advance on the Arizona Diamondbacks is up to two while the dishes go to Miami for the last series of the regular season 2025.
“You want to stay alive,” said Francisco Lindor. “We are in a position at this time when we control our own destiny, and we must go take care of business.”
Lindor went 1 for 4 with a Home Run, Brett Baty went 2-in-4 with a three-point circuit, Brandon Nimmo went 3 for 4 with a product point and two points, and Tyrone Taylor came with a double with two rounds at the top of the sixth. He gave the dishes (82-77) two crucial insurance races and eliminated the left-hander Shota Imanaga from the match.
At the end of the sixth, Seiya Suzuki took Nolan McLean Deep for a three-point shot to finish his night, and bring the Cubs (89-70) to three points after the link, 8-5. It was the second Suzuki home run from McLean night.
Before Suzuki managed to take charge of a 0-1 sweeper, McLean had sailed. He withdrew a career in career 11 of the 23 strikers he faced, withdrawing the side during the second round.
To say that the dishes needed a regular departure of their recruit right -hander would be an understatement. They overcome an explosion of pitch in the series of David Peterson, but could not overcome another of Jonah Tong on Wednesday evening.
Each outing, it shows the possibility of making the right adjustments and launching the right steps. This time, it was his cutter who helped him cut the range of Chicago.
“I’m just trying to keep the match plan as different as possible, as many times as possible,” said McLean. “It was good tonight, so I tried to look into it and use it in a way to protect the sweeper and the curve a little. Just something different.
In his eighth start of the major league, McLean was accused of five points deserved on five strokes and walked two in 5 1/3 sleeves.
He launched 48 rounds since his call in August, two shyness of the limit which would have eliminated his recruit status for 2026. If he won the Rookie Prize of the NL year next season, or finish in the top-3 of the NL Cy Young or MVP price before arbitration, the dishes will receive an additional choice.
“You feel good in your chances every time he takes baseball,” said manager Carlos Mendoza. “Today was the perfect scenario. There were a few guys, he is up 91-92, and you always feel very good that he was getting out of this situation.”
Ryne Stanek came to get the next two withdrawals. Brooks Raley and Tyler Rogers kept his head with goalless sleeves, and Edwin Diaz converted his 28th stop.
“We will continue to continue to count on these guys,” said Mendoza. “They know where we are, and they will continue to ask for baseball.”
IMANAGA (9-8) granted nine strokes and eight points, walking two and withdrawing three.
The dishes took an advance of 2-0 in the first partly due to a violation of the rules. Swanson crossed the net and in the stands to catch a Naufratif pop-up from Mark comes with Lindor on Third and Pete Alonso in second position. Leaving the field of play advances the Baserunners, including the coach of the third base Mike Sarbaugh was aware. He immediately returned Lindor to the house and called Alonso to go to the third.
The Nimmo single then marked Alonso.
Lindor succeeded 3-0 in the third with his 30th Home Run of the season, marking the second time in three years, the Cop-Court hit 30 circuits and stolen 30 or more bases. Lindor and Juan Soto became the first teammates of the Mets to be reached the 30-30 brand of the same season.
Baty struck the most important home run of the day, a three-point bomb on the left field in the fourth which gave the food a 6-0 lead. It was his 18th of the season, but only his third against a left -hander. The third basic player also made a fantastic game in the fight at Poirie naked to put an end to the third round, invoicing a helicopter of Nico Hoerner and making a strong launch through the diamond in Alonso with the first goal.
“I thought it was huge,” said Baty. “I watched it, and I should probably have a lack of time because I had a little more time than I thought, but it was also Hoerner running, so I didn’t know how fast it was out of the box. But yes, it was a cool game.”
He seems to have solidified third place for the weekend and in the playoffs, if the dishes extend their season.
