James Comer Prepares to Make Political Life Very Difficult for Tim Walz, and I Am So Here for It – RedState

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) has many politically embarrassing accolades, not the least of which is his participation in one of the few vice presidential debates that people actually remember, with JD Vance absolutely cleaning his clock in October 2024 without breaking a sweat.

After also being humiliated the following month, one would think Walz would keep a low profile in 2025 to avoid further national embarrassment. But not only did he not do so, he is running for re-election as governor in 2026. Even more surprising, Walz is rumored to be considering a run for president in 2028, even though he said in July that a 2028 run was not in the cards for him.

He’s certainly given every indication of his interest, between the town hall tour he took earlier this year in Republican-won congressional districts, repeated comparisons of President Trump to authoritarian dictators, and even once insinuating that he wished the baseless Lincoln Project-fueled rumors about Trump’s death that circulated over Labor Day weekend were true.

But here we are nearing the end of 2025, and Tim Walz is no longer laughing, thanks in part to the wave of fraud scandals in his state, all of which occurred under his watch and which amount not only to millions in stolen taxpayer money, but billion.

Needless to say, Minnesota and Walz are largely on the Trump administration’s radar, with the DOJ continuing its investigations and filing charges, and the House Oversight Committee expanding its own probe:

A widening federal investigation into Minnesota’s massive fraud scandal is drawing in whistleblowers, mayors and state lawmakers amid growing scrutiny of state officials, House Oversight Chairman James Comer told Fox News on Tuesday.

“The walls are coming down in front of Tim Walz,” Comer, R-Ky., said on “America’s Newsroom.”

“This massive fraud affects and impacts all citizens of Minnesota, as they have to cut back on their services because so much of the money intended for social programs was wasted and defrauded by this Somali population.”

Comer added in the interview with Fox News that “one of the things [Walz has] declared in the last 48 hours that the Oversight Committee did not need to worry about this investigation, that it would take care of it. No one in America believes that… We’re going to investigate this.”

In another interview, Comer discussed how Minnesota’s Somali community, which is at the center of some fraud investigations, had become critical of the political aspirations of the state’s Democrats, which is a large part of why the scandals were able to fly under the radar for so long:

According to Comer, these calls went nowhere because Democratic leaders feared the political consequences of taking action. He said Minnesota’s Somali community plays a central role in the state’s Democratic electoral calculus. “This Somali population has become a massive part of the Democratic base in Minnesota,” Comer said. “That’s the key to the success of the Democratic Party’s business model in Minnesota – and presidentially, to win the state of Minnesota and get the Electoral College votes.”
