The latest Microsoft Edge update changed how the browser’s password manager works, Neowin reports. Microsoft rolled out a new update to Edge version 145 on Friday, removing support for master passwords for the browser’s password manager.
It will no longer be possible to create a new master password to access the password manager in Edge. However, if you have already created a master password, you can continue to use it for a few more months. This is a big step toward forcing users to switch to Windows Hello for password management.
Users will be notified that their master password will only work until June 4, 2026. After that, you will only be able to access the password manager through device authentication via Windows Hello.
