“Worth It?”: Republicans Are Splitting Over Trump’s Redistricting War

Violent crimes have been down DC since 2023, surrounding a decrease in crime nationwide the following year which saw homicide rates across the country, reported The Washington Post. In 2024, crime in the national capital fell 35% compared to the previous year, according to data from the Metropolitan Police Department.
But that doesn’t fit into Trump’s story. Instead, the commander -in -chief allegedly alleged that a district commander had been “suspended for having allegedly manipulated the statistics of violent crimes” and quoted DC Police Union as a higher crime rate.
“Because the Democratic Government of DC has largely ceased to investigate, stop and pursue most of the crimes, published statistics do not even understand a fraction of real violence,” wrote Trump. He said that the city had ceased to stop people for the display, ridiculed schools as “dysfunctional” while describing the gangs of young people and out of control, and alleged that citizens were no longer walking in the streets, “becoming essentially captive prisoners in their own city”.
