Millionaire’s Tax heads to the WA governor’s desk

A highly controversial tax on millionaires is on its way to the governor’s desk.
The Washington state Senate passed the tax after lawmakers spent more than 24 hours in the House yesterday.
It went 27-21.
The measure would result in a 9.9% tax increase on state households earning more than $1 million.
The tax was approved by the Senate Ways and Means Committee last week.
Before the vote, Democratic Sen. Yasmin Trudeau said the proposal aimed to “level the playing field” between the state’s wealthiest residents and people struggling to make ends meet.

Republican Sen. Perry Dozier argued the measure did nothing to make the state more affordable.
The legislative session is expected to end this Thursday.
Once signed, the tax will not take effect until 2029.
