Minnesota and National Police Blow Up That Dem Narrative About ICE Arrest Problems in the State – RedState

One of the main factors that has made federal immigration enforcement in Minnesota more difficult is a lack of cooperation from state and local authorities.
This means that prisons do not notify ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) when they release people, so that ICE can pick them up from the safety and security of the prison. They release them into the community, which then creates difficulties in tracking and recovering them, which poses more potential problems.
On top of that, you have to deal with the rabid anti-ICE lunatics who may try to get in your way. In other states, local police can help with crowd control, so it’s less of a problem, but Minnesota has generally not been that cooperative. Even when they were storming the Hilton Hotel’s Home2Suites, breaking through doors, even battling an MPD officer and security, it took a long time for police to arrive.

All of this doesn’t sit well with some police officers, both nationally and in Minnesota.
St. Paul Police Federation President Mark Ross made this clear, saying that if they had been allowed to cooperate with ICE, it could have prevented the murders of Renee Good and Alex Pretti.
“Since the Republican National Convention was held in St. Paul in 2008, Minnesota law enforcement has undergone extensive training on mobile field force configurations and crowd management for major events. And because of that, I believe we are best suited to handle this,” Ross said.
“Unfortunately, our local elected officials do not allow us to do this,” he added. [….]
“If we had just a little bit of coordination – not in terms of what ICE is doing, but if they say, ‘Hey, we need to go to this location to execute a warrant, we’re going to be there for a few hours. We are nervous that crowds will form and cause us trouble. Can you come over and help?’ It’s something we can easily coordinate with a little notice, and sometimes with virtually no notice, we can move in quickly,” Ross said.
“I think if we could have done that, there would have been no loss of life at this point,” he said. […]
“We want to be out there. We want to keep people safe, and it’s been very difficult. We really feel like we’re in the middle of it, obviously, not by choice,” Ross added.
This only explodes the Democratic narrative, placing blame on ICE. They are cooperating in most other states, without the same level of resistance from state and local officials, and they are a far cry from the problems that have occurred in Minnesota. So it’s not because of ICE, it’s because Democratic politicians refuse to cooperate.
Here are some statistics from other states without Minnesota’s violence.
🚨 BREAKING: 88,000 illegal immigrants arrested in Texas, 34,000 in Florida, 30,000 in California, 13,000 in New York and 12,000 in Georgia
And virtually NO VIOLENCE. Unlike Minneapolis.

It wasn’t just a Minnesota police union official who intervened; The National Police Association also weighed in, responding to a message from Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey.
Frey said:
Our police’s job is to keep people safe, not to enforce federal immigration laws. I want them to avoid homicides, not to hunt down a working father who contributes to the SPLM and comes from Ecuador. It’s similar to the policy your guy Rudy had in New York. Everyone should feel safe calling 911.
He’s right that they don’t “enforce” immigration laws, but the problem is they fight enforcement.
The job of the police is to keep people safe, and this policy, which can lead to illegal criminal aliens fleeing, is not about “keeping people safe.” And you’re not keeping agitators or federal agents safe if you don’t provide police at least for crowd control, as police union President Mark Ross observed.
The NPA destroyed Frey and the Democratic narrative, but that’s a good thing. They even give him the “rather peaceful” speech to reproach him.
ICE agents also can’t enforce federal law when they’re busy dodging Molotov cocktails and getting swarmed by the same “mostly peaceful” crowds that you prohibit MPD from arresting under local laws such as disturbing the peace, assault, arson, property damage… https://t.co/4m2Exl12i5

Bottom line?
These are the guys in line. They know what the police are supposed to do, and they’re frustrated that it’s not happening because they actually care about protecting people. It’s all up to Democratic leaders – that’s what needs to change. That’s what border czar Tom Homan is working to change.

It remains to be seen whether state and local authorities will comply.
