More Details on Shooting Outside White House, Including Alleged Shooter ID – RedState

As we reported, shots were fired outside the White House earlier, at 17th and Pennsylvania Avenue, in Washington, D.C. 

The sounds of the shots were captured by ABC’s senior White House correspondent Selina Wang, who was doing a standup report on the north lawn. The press was then herded into the Briefing Room for safety, and the White House went on lockdown for about half an hour.

Wang points out where the shooting occurred. 

FBI is on the scene and Secret Service is responding to shots near the White House grounds.

The President is currently at the White House.

I was in the middle of taping from the White House North Lawn when I heard what sounded like dozens of gunshots fired nearby.

According to a Secret Service spokesperson, a suspect approached a Secret Service checkpoint near 17th and Pennsylvania, took out a weapon from a bag, and began firing at the officers there. 

Agents then returned fire. They hit the suspect, who later died on the way to the hospital. 

A bystander was also hit during the incident. It’s not clear by what gunfire he was hit – the initial firing by the suspect, or the subsequent exchange between the suspect and the agents. Fortunately, none of the Secret Service agents were hit. 





Multiple sources confirmed to Fox News Digital the suspect accused of opening fire near the White House Saturday afternoon has been identified as Nasire Best, 21, of Maryland. […}

He allegedly had prior encounters with the Secret Service and a history of mental health issues, sources said. 

Best was detained by Secret Service on June 26, 2025, for flagging down agents and making threats, and again on July 10, 2025, for entering a restricted area, Fox News has learned.

President Donald Trump was in the White House, and he was fine. He was informed about what had happened. This White House official noted Trump was still working at 8 p.m.
