ASUS will not release any new smartphones this year

ASUS seems to be moving its business activities away from smartphones. According to translations of recent quotes from President Jonney Shih, the company does not plan to launch new phone models in the future. The president did not confirm whether smartphones would be phased out completely, but he acknowledged the possibility. Regardless of which direction ASUS takes, its existing phones will continue to receive software updates and warranty support. Shih suggested that his future plans could include a transition to AI-related projects such as robotics or smart glasses.
Previous reports suggested that ASUS would not introduce any smartphones in 2026, but Shih’s recent comments indicate that the pause could last more than a year. We’ve reached out to ASUS for additional comment and will update if the company shares additional information.
ASUS showed off many other updates from CES earlier this month, unrelated to smartphones, such as dual-screen laptops and a pair of gaming smart glasses. So if it decides to exit this product segment, there will still be other ASUS-branded gear on the market.
