NBA Summer Forecast 2025-26: Turnarounds, turbulent teams and the biggest questions

The NBA 2025-26 season is less than two months old, and excitement is already being built for what should be another season full of upheavals.
While the League is preparing for the Ripple effect of stars like Kevin Durant, Myles Turner and Kristaps Porzingis on new teams, other teams like the Boston Celtics and Indiana Pacers are preparing for a season without their stars. Could these new faces in new places and injuries give way to an unexpected NBA champion?
The ESPN summer forecast panel is made up of our NBA initiates, answers the biggest questions in the NBA before the 2025-26 season, including which team should make a turnaround, which stars are likely to get out of their current teams and if we have a new champion of the crowned team for the first consecutive season. (Here are the mathematics: a first place vote received five points, a vote from second place of three points and a third place vote.)
Here are the results:
Note: Our summer forecasts from the NBA 2025-26 continue on Tuesday with predictions for all the main prices.

Turnaround of the team: What teams will make a major jump?
T1. San Antonio Spurs /Atlanta Hawks: 55 points
2. Philadelphia 76ers: 49 points
3. Orlando Magic: 48 points
4. Minnesota Timberwolves: 6 points
5. Houston Rockets: 5 points
Spurs produced a sequence of 22 consecutive appearances in the eliminatory series from 1997 to 1998 to 2018-2019 and could finally be ready to end their drought of six years after writing in the top 10 for four consecutive years. The health and development of the young talent of San Antonio – in particular the consecutive winners of the NBA recruit of the year Victor Wembanyama and Stephon Castle – will be crucial to directing an altered list which now presents another recruit candidate of the year in choice n ° 2 Dylan Harper, as well as veterans additions such as Luke Kornet and Kelly Olynyk.
But do not sleep on the Hawks of Atlanta, which finished just behind the Spurs in the survey, or the Philadelphia 76ers. Barely five years ago, the 76ers and the Hawks fought in the semi-finals of the Eastern Conference, Trae Young and Joel Embiid lost 39 and 37 points, respectively, in match 7. The Philadelphia’s prospects largely depend on the health of the veteran stars Embiid and Paul George, as well as the continuous growth of Tyrese Maxey. The Hawks, on the other hand, gathered a potentially transformative offseason by adding scorers such as Kristaps Porzingis and Luke Kennard to complete Young, in addition to a reliable defender to Nickeil Alexander-Walker.
The young and hungry Orlando Magic also hides here, while they are looking to pass beyond the first round of the playoffs for the first time since 2009-10. – Michael C. Wright

Team Turme: What team will fall this season?
1. Milwaukee Bucks: 41 points
2. Los Angeles Lakers: 32 points
T3. Boston Celtics / Phoenix Suns: 28 points
4. Philadelphia 76ers: 25 points
5. Indiana Pacers: 19 points
The Bucks are at the top of this list due to the growing uncertainty surrounding the deductible at the perceived end of its conflict window. Giannis Antetokounmpo is still one of the best players in the world. However, the talented gap between him and the rest of the list is striking, even after Milwaukee made an unprecedented decision to sign Myles Turner in free agency. To sign Turner, the Bucks gave up goalkeeper Damian Lillard and have extended the remaining $ 110 million over his contract in the next five years, which gives them future flexibility to find a short -term solution – a panel seen by rival teams as an act of despair by the bucks to hang on the last apogee of Antetokoun.
The Bucks success plan this season will be to rely strongly on Antetokounmpo. The MVP twice has already experienced massive tasks, but put this list by the running without a second clear star may require its most Herculean effort. Milwaukee started last season 2-8, then found a way to rally and make the playoffs before going out in the first round. Will bucks have patience and confidence to bounce back if they reach a slow start this season? – Jamal necklace

The next superstar to ask for a business will be …?

2. Giannis antetokounmpo: 7 votes
3. LeBron James: 6 votes
4. Ja MORANT: 1 vote
5. Trae Young: 1 vote

There is no situation that simmer this summer which seems as intended for the divorce of mid-season as the tense marriage of Jimmy Butler with the Miami Heat was last season.
Williamson’s stay in New Orleans may have been extended by the change in the front office of Pélicans, Joe Dumars replacing David Griffin as the main decision-maker. If Williamson can have a strong start to the season – and avoid the injury bug that tormented his career – it is possible that he could seek a new start instead of staying with a deductible from New Orleans which seems to be stuck in neutral. He has been a silent radio since James, via his agent Rich Paul, tried to trace the cages of the Lakers immediately after exercising his option as a player of $ 52.6 million for this season. The top scorer of all time and his camp understand how much a business involved it – at his age, making as much money, with the contractual right of veto at any agreement – would be.
Speculations were around antetokounmpo by asking Milwaukee for several years. If he has not taken this drastic stage in summer, it is unlikely that it will happen in mid-season. – Tim MacMahon

What superstar injury will have the greatest impact in the East?
1. Jayson Tatum: 20 votes
2. Tyrese Haliburton: 5 votes
3. Joel Embiid: 1 vote
(Note: this category was noted on a basis at one point per vote.)
The Achilles of Tatum injury was a catalyst for perhaps an even more aggressive sale and a reduction in expenses for Celtics, already forced to break their nucleus and reduce their payroll to avoid the second apron.
Boston has certainly achieved this objective, exchanging both the Kristaps Porzingis center and the Jrue Holiday guard. He also lost the Luke Kornet backup center and probably separates with the great beloved man Al Horford, who remains a free agent for the moment.
Yes, the Celtics still have Jaylen Brown and Derrick White on the wings, and the newcomer Anfernee Simons is certainly a top scorer. However, no team from the association has lost more skills and high -end skills than Celtics this offseason. The depth of the team is no longer a championship caliber, especially in the post, and it is clear that Boston seeks to reopen his title window next season, once Tatum can return to programming. – Chris Herring

Will we have another champion for the eighth consecutive season?

Stephen A.’s surprising choice to win the NBA championship next year
Stephen A. Smith Class Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving in her best five players watching next season and says that if they stay healthy, the Mavericks can go to the end.

Earlier this month, I addressed this very subject of parity, and if it is good for the NBA to no longer have dynasties after being a league which was built on them for most of its history.
It is understandable why the vote would be tilted towards this continuous trend. The Thunder has become the seventh new consecutive champion of the NBA this spring – and the Celtics have become the sixth consecutive reigning champion not to pass the semi -finals of the conference.
However, the vote can be too reflexive, examining the past, rather than examining the case of the Thunder. Oklahoma City was the second team to win a title in the past 50 years, behind the Portland Trail Blazers in 1977. This season, he receives all his players and strongly pleads to believe that he will be even stronger in 2025-2026. People around the league said they would choose the Thunder to repeat as champions and do not see a credible argument against them.
This does nothing to guarantee that Oklahoma City will repeat itself. Last season, the Cleveland horsemen and the Boston Celtics were to compete in the final of the Eastern Conference, but none did. The Thunder was on the ropes in the second round against the Denver Nuggets and in the final against the Indiana Pacers. The inevitable increasing competitiveness of the League, as well as a few questions about the OKC stay, led our panel to conclude that parity will reign on the NBA this season. – Tim Bontemps

What team is most likely to take a big step before the deadline for trade?
1. Golden State Warriors: 7 votes
2. Los Angeles Lakers: 5 votes
T3. Cleveland Cavaliers /New Orleans Pélicans: 3 votes
4. Philadelphia 76ers: 2 votes
5. Memphis Grizzlies: 1 vote
(Note: this category was noted on a basis at one point per vote.)
The Warriors direct this list because they essentially passed the offseason to point out a desire for movement of deadlines. Their contractual offer of $ 45 million over two years to the limited free agent Jonathan Kuminga was designed to do so on a salary number they can return in January. The Lakers, which make the transition to the Luka Doncic era, have maintained some sweeteners in the first round which can be used to conclude an agreement as an expired contract of LeBron James. For the situation of riders, disappointment and despair can reproduce the movements. If they fear that their core oven of high value will not do it again in the playoffs, they can decide to turn one and change the mixture. – Anthony Slater
