Netflix’s first show with generative AI is a sign of what’s to come in TV, film

Netflix used a generative AI in an original and scripted series that made its debut this year, he revealed this week. The producers used technology to create a scene in which a building collapses, referring to the growing use of generative AI in entertainment.

Yesterday, during a call with investors, the Netflix Ted Sarandos CO-PDG revealed that the Argentinian show of Netflix EternautWho was presented in April, is “the very first final sequence of the Genai to appear on the screen in a series or an original Netflix, Inc.” series. Sarandos also explained, according to a transcription of the call, saying:

The creators wanted to show a building collapse in Buenos Aires. So our team from Ileine, [which is the production innovation group inside the visual effects house at Netflix effects studio Scanline]joined forces with their creative team using AI -fed tools. … And in fact, this VFX sequence was completed 10 times faster than it could have been finished with visual and traditional VFX tools. And, also, the cost of this one would simply not have been possible for a show in this budget.

Sarandos said the viewers were “delighted with the results”; Although it probably has a lot to do with the way the rest of the series, based on a comic strip, takes place, not just a craft scene.

More generative AI on Netflix

However, Netflix seems open to the use of generative AI in emissions and films, with Sarandos saying that technology “represents an incredible opportunity to help creators improve films and series, not only cheaper”.

“Our creators are already seeing the advantages of production by work of pre-visit and shots planning and, certainly, visual effects,” he said. “Previously, only big budget projects would have access to advanced visual effects such as degreasing.”
