Nevada officials scramble after ‘network security incident’ shuts offices

The renewal of driving licenses, obtaining marriage certificates and the realization of a public enterprise was impossible on Monday in Nevada, following a “significant degradation of the state network affecting the capacity to carry out normal affairs”, according to the Office of the Attorney General of the State.
Nevada closed all the services in person in state offices on Monday following “the network security incident”, which was detected for the first time on Sunday, according to a press release from Governor Joe Lombardo. While the services in person were not available due to the breakdown, the emergency services and the 911 remained online.

It is not clear if network problems were malicious, but the FBI investigates the issue, according to CNN.
The Lombardo office warned Nevadans to be wary of those who can take advantage of the closure and “stimulate specifically calls, emails or SMS not asked to request personal information or payments”. The Lombardo office also said that there was no evidence that personal data from Nevadans had been raped.
