Aurora home uninhabitable after Christmas Day fire

An Aurora home was deemed uninhabitable after a Christmas Day fire, Aurora Fire Department officials said.
Around noon Thursday, the Aurora Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 1900 block of Sedgegrass Trail, according to a news release from the department.
Several 911 calls were received from neighbors reporting flames visible from the home, according to the release.
A total of four engine builders, two truck builders, three medical units and two chief officers – 26 people in total – responded to the scene, officials said.
The first arriving crews were met with heavy fire along the side of a two-story single-family home, with smoke coming from the eaves, according to the release.
Firefighters began putting out the fire from the exterior before entering the second floor, authorities said. Additional crews conducted searches, deployed emergency hoses, ventilated the roof and performed exterior overhaul operations.
The fire was brought under control in approximately 30 minutes, the press release said.
All residents were safely evacuated before firefighters arrived, and no injuries were reported, according to the release.
Due to extensive fire damage, the home was declared uninhabitable, authorities said. Fire crews remained on scene to help the homeowner recover their belongings and secure the property, while ComEd and Nicor shut off utilities, the release said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, authorities said in the release.
