‘New York City Has Fallen’: MAGA Responds to Zohran Mamdani’s Victory With a Racist Freak-Out
MAGA influencers, Republicans Lawmakers and conspiracy theorists alike responded to Zohran Mamdani’s New York City mayoral victory by pushing far-right anti-immigration and Islamophobic rhetoric and claiming the city had fallen.
Mamdani, who campaigned on progressive issues and identifies as a democratic socialist, will be New York’s youngest mayor in more than a century. He will also be the city’s first Muslim and South Asian mayor. With more than 90 percent of the 2 million votes counted as of Wednesday morning, Mamdani held a nearly 9-point lead over former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, with Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa trailing far behind with just 7 percent of the vote.
“Conventional wisdom would tell you that I am far from the perfect candidate,” Mamdani said during his victory speech Tuesday night. “I am young, despite my best efforts to age. I am Muslim. I am a democratic socialist. And most damning of all, I refuse to apologize for any of this.”
It was Mamdani’s embrace of New York’s immigrants and his own Muslim upbringing that captured the attention of most of the MAGA sphere, labeling him a “third world communist,” a “Marxist,” and a “jihadist.”

White House deputy chief of staff for policy Stephen Miller, the architect of the Trump administration’s immigration policy, meanwhile posted a screenshot of a 2023 report on the website Nyc.gov that showed about 50% of New York households contained at least one immigrant, without adding comment.
Others suggested that the election result in New York would be a harbinger of what would happen in the rest of the United States. “New York Democrats have chosen a true extremist and Marxist, and the consequences will be felt across our nation,” House Speaker Mike Johnson wrote on
Many others focused on Mamdani’s Muslim faith, pushing Islamophobic conspiracy theories about the future of New York. “America is on the verge of becoming a very violent country, Mamdani will encourage Muslims to commit political assassinations to gain power and silence critics,” conspiracy theorist Laura Loomer wrote in one of her many election articles on X.
