New York Man Uses AI to Build Bombs He Planned to Detonate in Manhattan

The law enforcement officials say that a 55 -year -old New York man would have used AI to help him build bombs he planned to explode in Manhattan.
Michael Gann of Long Island, New York, is accused of having built several homemade bombs with the help of AI, an effort he claims was “easier than buying firearms powder”, according to court documents obtained by NBC News.
The suspect, who was charged by federal prosecutors on Tuesday, would have transported the long Island bombs to Manhattan, storing five of them and four hunting rifle shells on the roof of a building in the Soho district of Manhattan.
The court documents would have revealed that Gann, accused of having planned to combine the hunting rifle shells with one or more bombs, told the authorities that he had used two household compounds that he had ordered online to make improvised explosives.
One of the bombs built by Gann had about 30 grams of explosive powder, which is about 600 times the legal limit for consumer fireworks, officials said.
A witness who had served in the army would have declared to the FBI that Gann had asked him, “What kind of veteran are you?” Before declaring: “You see a problem that happens in the neighborhood and you do not do anything”, while mixing the explosives with Long Island. “Gann then underlined a Jewish school,” said the criminal complaint.
On June 5, a second witness called Gann and allowed the FBI to listen. During their conversation, the suspect told the witness that “he had lit one of the aircraft near the East river on the FDR player – that the device had exploded, frightening Gann,” added the complaint.
Later in the day, the authorities saw Gann descend to a street with a shoulder bag. After the agents identified, the 55 -year -old man told them that he was heading for the fire service to file the aircraft, said the complaint.
The two witnesses also told the police that Gann said he was planning to get rid of the five remaining bombs by throwing them into the river or putting the explosives back to the New York fire service.
After being put in arrest, Gann would have told the police that he “wanted to do pyrotechnic and use artificial intelligence to learn which chemicals to buy and mix”.
Gann is accused of initially created four bombs and launching three of them from the Williamsburg bridge, which resulted in two of the devices falling into the water and the third landing on the railways, where it was recovered.
“Gann would have produced several improvised explosive devices intended to be used in Manhattan,” said Christopher Raia, head of the FBI field office in New York. “Due to the successful partnership of law enforcement organizations in New York, Gann was quickly brought to justice before being able to harm innocent civilians.”
The authorities said that Gann seemed to have acted alone and was not part of a group.
