Gunfire broke out Wednesday evening at a recording studio in Newark, leaving two people dead and two others injured, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said.

The deadly violence took place at Platinum Sound, a studio on the ground floor of a building nestled between a hair salon and a supermarket on Clinton Avenue, ABC7 reported. Witnesses at the scene told the station that the sound of music coming from the location was briefly drowned out by gunfire around 8 p.m.

One man was shot and died at the scene, and another man, also shot, was pronounced dead at the hospital, authorities said. Two other people were shot and transported to an area hospital. They are listed in stable condition, but the exact nature of their injuries was not specified. None of the victims have been identified.

In the hours following the shooting, law enforcement descended on the area surrounding the recording studio, where they remained until late at night. According to a preliminary investigation, police suspect that the violence could be part of a targeted attack.

Authorities have not yet announced any arrests and an investigation into the matter is ongoing.
