News Wrap: Dozens missing after deadly Mogadishu truck bombing

The forest fires that broke out over the weekend in Portugal killed at least 35 people, including a one month old baby. Today, more than 5,300 firefighters with some 1,600 vehicles fought against fires, some officials of which were launched by incendiaries. Forest fires also left at least four dead in neighboring Spain.

The Army Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl pleaded guilty today for desertion and bad behavior before the enemy. He was captured by the Taliban in 2009, after leaving his post in Afghanistan. This caused intense research and an exchange of prisoners. Bergdahl appeared before a military judge in Fort Bragg, North Carolina today. The 31 -year -old could be sentenced to life imprisonment. He said that his actions were very inexcusable, adding that he did not – quote – “Think that there would be a reason to carry out a crucial mission to look for a guy.”

The truck driver in the mortal smuggling race for immigrants pleaded guilty in court. San Antonio police found at least 39 immigrants, 10 of whom died, wrapped in a semi-trailer stifling last year and died. The driver, James Matthew Bradley Jr., pleaded for conspiracy and transporting immigrants, leading to death. He now risks to life prison.

A New Jersey man was found guilty of having planted two bombs to cook in the streets of New York last year. Ahmed Khan Rahimi faces a maximum perpetuity prison sentence for accusations including the use of a weapon of mass destruction. One of the bombs exploded in the Manhattan Chelsea district, injuring 30. The second did not explode. Officials said Rahimi was inspired by Isis and Al-Qaida.
