NFL QB Reps Dodgers Jersey at WBC in Japan

New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye showed support for Los Angeles Dodgers, sporting a jersey at Team Japan’s WBC match against Team Korea.
Maye and his wife, Ann Michael, saw one of the more exciting games of the tournament so far, with Team Japan making a comeback after falling three runs behind in the first inning. Both Shohei Ohtani and Hyeseong Kim both homered during the game.

While the duo got a great show on the field, fans away from the game have directed criticism at Maye for wearing the Dodgers’ colors despite not having a clear affiliation with the team.
“The Red Sox fan base is rightfully annoyed,” The Liberty Line’s Drew Smith wrote. “America is pissed off too. Shohei Ohtani, who does not need any more help, just got a free endorsement from the quarterback of one of the most visible franchises in American sports.
“Get this man a Team USA jersey next time. It is not complicated.”
Ann Michael Maye has been sure to show some love to the Boston fans during her trip to Japan, though, as she posted an instagram photo wearing a Red Sox hat from Kyoto, Japan just a few days prior to the game.

While fans’ grievances with Maye not wearing Boston’s colors at the game may be warranted, the Mayes’ support of the Dodgers is only natural given their dominance, especially when they’re going to watch the best baseball player on the planet.

How are Teams Japan and Korea Performing in the WBC?
Teams Japan and Korea have both secured their spots in the knockout rounds this WBC, with Korea qualifying for the first time since 2009 with a last-minute win against Team Australia early Monday morning.
Japan is yet to lose a game in pool play with just a game against Czechia coming up, and Team Korea’s 2-2 record did enough to get them through on run difference. The two teams will face off against the top two teams from Pool D, with the Dominican Republic and Venezuela as their most likely opponents.

Both teams will look to rest up as they head back to the Americas as they look to keep the WBC title in Asia for another few years.
