NHL coaching carousel 2025: Stars hire Glen Gulutzan to replace Peter DeBoer

The NHL coach carousel could finally be in line. Dallas stars hired Glen Gulutzan to replace Peter Deboer, the team announced on Tuesday.
It will be the first job as a Gulutzan coach since 2018, but he has been assistant coach for Edmonton’s Oilers for the last SIZ seasons. In a press release, Dallas Director Jim Nill, says that Gulutzan has grown a lot since his first visit with the 2011-13 stars.
“We are delighted to appoint Glen as a chief coach of Dallas stars,” said Nill. “Since his previous time in Dallas, Glen has worked tirelessly to settle as one of the most respected coaches in the NHL. His wide experience of NHL, both as chief traction and assistant coach, talks about his ability to innovate and adapt to modern game, as well as to establish relationships with his players. The right person to raise our team.”
Dallas gave Gulutzan his first coach opportunity in 2011, but that did not quite work. Gulutzan led the team to a record of 64-57-9 without appearances in playoffs. Gulutzan also led to the 2016-18 Calgary flames, and there he compiled a record of 82-68-14. He took the flames for the playoffs in 2017, but they were swept by Anaheim ducks in the first round.
Elsewhere around the coach carousel, Pittsburgh’s Penguins hired the former New York Rangers assistant Dan Muse. The Seattle Kraken brought the former Icelanders coach of New York Lane Lambert, the Canucks promoted assistant Adam Fote, and Rick Tocchet returned to the Philadelphia flyers as a new franchise coach.
Gulutzan being hired, all NHL training stations have been filled.
