Nine out of 10 nurses rejected their 3.6% remuneration price for this year and warned that they could hit later this year unless their wages are improved.

In an indicative vote among the members of the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, 91% said that the 3.6% increase was not sufficient.

The union said to the ministers “to use summer to reach an agreement on investment in nursing labor or to face an official climbing of a dispute and a ballot in industrial action”.

The overwhelming rejection of nurses in their remuneration price is a new headache of industrial relations of the NHS for ministers in London, Cardiff and Belfast, in particular for Wes Street, the secretary of health, who tries to resolve strikes of resident doctors in England to request a salary increase of 29%.

The RCN said: “In the biggest consultation ever led by the RCN, 91% said that the 3.6% NHS personnel price was not enough to present a profession seized by vacant posts, years of wages of wages and career progression.”

The participation rate was 56% and more than 170,000 RCN members in England voted, the union said. But it did not provide exact participation figures or ventilation of the vote in the three countries.

“We provide the vast majority of care in each [NHS] Service and deserves to be appreciated for all our skills, our knowledge and our experience, “said Professor Nicola Ranger, the secretary general and chief executive officer of the RCN.” To avoid formal climbing, the government must be faithful to its speech and negotiate on the reforms of the obsolete wage structure, which imprison the nursing staff of the same band in all their career. “”

The nurses in England organized several judgments at the end of 2022 and at the beginning of 2023 in search of a better salary.

Public opinion is divided on the prospect of a renewed campaign of debraying by nurses. The Yougov poll earlier this week has found a little more strikes. Overall, 47% said they have strongly or somewhat supported the nurses to have a salary, while 43% said they would oppose it strongly or somewhat. Yougov questioned 4,311 adults.

The Ministry of Health and Social Coins said it was disappointed that nurses in England rejected the 3.6% price that Streetting announced in May. “After receiving two salary increases greater than the inflation of this government, new full-time nurses will gain £ 30,000 in base salary for the first time this year, it is therefore disappointing that RCN members are not satisfied with the increase in salons this year,” said a DHSC spokesperson.

“We greatly appreciate the nurses’ work, and thanks to our 10 -year health plan, we rebuild the NHS for the benefit of patients and staff, and we provide nursing care remains an attractive career choice.

“This government is clear that we cannot progress more on the remuneration of titles, but that we will work with the RCN to improve their main concerns, including the reform of the wage structure, the concerns of the progression of the career and wider working conditions.”
