Robot vacuum brands are losing the plot with new ‘innovations’

Table of contents

I recently tested the Roborock robot vacuum cleaner of $ 2,599 with a robotic arm, which turned out to be mainly as gadget as it seems. As Carrie Bradshaw self-proclaimed from vacuum journalism, I couldn’t help but ask myself: do we miss how to improve the best vacuum vacancies?

I do not think that robots’ vacuum companies are totally lacking in innovating ways. But I think they have to read the room and center the practical appearance in the average house rather than push high -tech fantasies half -cooked.

Some household appliances are supposed to be fun. The robot vacuum cleaners are not part of it.

During the test of a robot emptiness – a device whose sole purpose is to make life at home – I constantly consider how many households could possibly need such or such a characteristic, compared to the cost of the void. Although a robotic arm that picks up the socks makes it a small fun video on Instagram, it was not so realistic in practice.

The fact is that I do not look at all cleaning devices through this strict utility lens.

For example, I think that cooking devices have a little more room for maneuver to be silly and clumsy and additional. Does anyone need A manufacturer of ice cream with soft service or a manufacturer of frozen drinks? Probably not, but the Swirl Ninja and the Ninja Slushi have always become viral for a reason: cooking and consumption are two universal activities that bring people together, and that justifies spending a few hundred dollars over a new way of moving these things.

Robot vacuum cleaners do not exactly keep a significant experience like that. Cleaning is something that people want to get out of the way so that they can spend time on the pleasant things that matter – like making desserts with dear beings. If a certain emptiness of the robot has so much fanciful things that it cannot simply chop the chore of the task list, we have somehow lost the intrigue of automated cleaning.

Where can the vacuum features of the robot start from here?

The developments like the garbage cans that have been autonomous and the quays that automatically wash and dry the cleaning pads were transformers in the robotic vacuum industry. But they are no longer new for anyone – this level of automated maintenance has existed for a long time so that it is almost expected NOW. There are small ways that brands can continue to improve, like the “self-effective” Rombera which omits an auto-video quay, compacting rather the dust itself to save a floor space. But in general, it seems that we are almost at most in the category of autonomy for the moment.

Mashable trend report

It goes without saying that the brands of robot vacuum cleaners will always aim to strengthen the stronger aspiration power or to fill better. But beyond that, the quest is to find new ways for a robot emptiness to solve problems related to cleaning for people without innovating too close to the sun. Vaguely put, the new characteristics of ideal robot vacuum would feel accessible and functional for the average person – does not feel over there That the whole premise of functionality looks like a joke.

To be fair, Roborock was on the right track with the arm – his goal was finally to save children or parents when it takes to store a congested soil. His real problem was the fact that the arm was so limited in the things he could potentially pick up, and even then he could not do it in a very reliable way. Although I loved several other Roborock robot vacuum vacuum (without robotic members) that I tested, their little obstacle avoidance is not yet 100%perfect. Shouldn’t we focus on this first?

Convertible robot vacuum cleaners are the reasonable way to go

There are many more successful examples on how robot vacuum cleaners can solve more than one problem in a single purchase.

EUFY is a brand that particularly kills the game. Some of its BOTVACs 2025 make a 2-in-cost bit 2 in 1 fresh, combining several types of floor cleaning in a single machine: the EUFY E28 comes with a portable carpet cleaner to tackle the spots that can obviously not be sucked in, and the EUFY E20 is a vacuum of robot which can quickly convert into a vacuum or linen. Hand -sized. I have not yet tried E28, but I was completely impressed by the flexibility of the E20 in my apartment – so much so that I nicknamed it the most underestimated vacuum of 2025 so far.

Brock vacuum cleaners and carpet cleaners are two items that most people already know, and two items that most people probably want to have at hand. EUFY was a genius to crush them together in a robot vacuum purchase, without making the process to switch to each super convoluted. The next obvious step seems to be an emptiness of the robot that cleanses a carpet itself.

Although I roast my arm, I still think Roborock is one of the most intelligent robot vacuum cleaners. I think I applauded audiblely the first time I watched a Roborock vacuum swinging a rotation cushion in rotation directly in a corner and along my kitchen counter. I had never seen an angle cleaning so thorough with a D cleaning cushion in D shaped which is just under the vacuum. It is The kind of simple innovation I’m talking about.

People really eat this kind of visible cleaning performance. Take a transparent dust tank, for example: one of my favorite wireless vacuum cleaners self-supmed each time I hang up it to load, which means that I start each cleaning session with a clean slate. I can see exactly how thickened dust rabbits are in one room. It would be cool if some empty quays of the robot had a transparent window that showed progress like that, or if the application could provide information on the weight of debris picked up in a certain room.

The infallible proof of clean soil is a real argument of sale, do you know? This is why the dust laser on Dyson vacuum cleaners clicked so hard with buyers, despite perhaps a little more at the start. Speaking of this, it would be a wise addition to the next vacuum of the Dyson robot.
